21-04-2018 - Message from South Glos Council re traffic lights at the crossroads of the A46 and Acton Turville Road & Marshfield Road
I want to take the opportunity to update about
the removal of temporary traffic lights at the junction of B4456 Westerleigh
Road and the A46.
The contraflow over the Bromley Heath Viaduct will be removed over the weekend of 27 April.
In advance of this, we will be removing the temporary traffic lights on the A46 near Tormarton, at the junction with the B4465 Westerleigh Road, over the course of this weekend (20 and 21 April).
There will be four-way lights in operation from 8am on Saturday until 6pm on Sunday while we carry out the removal works.
The temporary lights at Tormarton were only intended to help ease the pressure of traffic during the viaduct works and the equipment used is not suitable to be made a permanent fixture. We are aware that these lights have been welcomed locally and the council is looking at a permanent solution.
An update has also been provided on the viaduct Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bhviaduct
15-04-2018 The message below may be of interest to anyone who was "snowed in" over this winter
South Gloucestershire Council is
holding a consultation on proposed changes to the precautionary salting routes in South Gloucestershire which would take effect from winter
The key points of the new proposal are to make savings in financial terms (£100,000) by reducing the number gritters in the fleet by two, and to reduce the amount time spent by drivers treating the highway network by removing approximately 30km of roads from the precautionary salted network.
We are keen to hear from a range of individuals and organisations on how these proposed changes might impact them, in order to help us make a final decision on how to make this financial saving.
The consultation is open until end of day Monday 18th June

Tormarton Park & Share: Tormarton Parish Councillors and Sue Hope, our South Glos District Councillor, met Emma Blackham, Head of Strategic Transport for SGC, on 20th September to obtain an update on what SGC had done with respect to the proposed Tormarton Park & Share scheme. The information provided showed that several feasibility and design studies had been carried out by SGC during the past two years. This confirmed that the land south of the M4 at Tormarton is a viable proposition for a Park & Share site and that further work will need to be done to identify more precisely the demand for this facility. In addition, part of the land in question is owned by SGC and part is owned by Highways England (HE) and one area of the land owned by SGC is currently occupied by a long term tenant. Further discussions need to take place between SGC and HE to identify the best option for the Park & Share site. Further news on this project is expected early in 2017.
